Gone Shootin’ Films had advertised they needed an intro sequence for a pilot TV show called Staff Room’.
I got in touch and we discussed the project. We decided the logical thing to do would be show a school exercise book with the pages ‘fluttering’ to open pages, each time it would land on the open pages we’d show the various people in the cast.
They had taken various photos of each staff member so we then thought it’d be nice to use more than one and have them animate a few poses a la the ‘Only Fools and Horses’ intro graphics.
…The main challenge here was to actually rig the book in 3D where each page would have to bend and turn realistically.
I then ran them through some photoshop actions to make them appear like they’d been drawn by pencil, and added a few doodles to each page that related to each characters personality.
The main challenge here was to actually rig the book in 3D where each page would have to bend and turn realistically. In hindsight it would have probably been easier to use after effects, but I found a way to get it done.
When the pages open, it was then just a case of keying each movie to start playing of the character. Another challenge was how to stop the reverse image showing on the back of the page so learnt some nifty texturing tricks!
