After my previous work with the band, Danny (the drummer) reached out saying they needed a video doing for their new single. “That sounds great” I thought- but there was a catch.. it needed to be done in 5 days and on a shoestring budget. I never shy away from a challenge so accepted and got involved!

I started by requesting the stems and running them through an audio react template and then customised it all until it looked pretty cool. The idea being the song displaying in concentric circles whereby each instrument (drums, bass, guitar, vox) would have it’s own circle.
I rendered these out with an alpha channel then started animating the lyrics going for a vibrant purple and hot pink colour scheme and a grungy ransom-style typeface that has been a theme in their previous vids.
Once the lyrics and the audio waves were in the edit it was a case of finding old archive footage for the background and editing to the beat. I searched archive.org for anything ‘occult’ (footage of the ‘devil’) for the chorus. For the verses it was a case of finding something that matched the lyric e.g bombs dropping for “this is war”.
I ‘dirtied’ up some of this footage with grungy effects, darkened it all and played about with blend modes until I was happy with it.. well, until the time ran out!
