I was asked to work on a video for Macc-rockers The Virginmarys!
The ideas for the video had been thought up in a pub and the original treatment was basically that a load of ‘voodoo’ weirdos meet up and summon the band.
It was a challenge to get a really clean key due to all the smoke and fire but got there in the end!
I storyboarded the treatment I was given and set it to the song to figure out where each ‘scene’ would be. I then organised a shoot with the band against green screen. We filmed the band on 3 cameras, starting with wide shots and then moving in and tightening the shot each take. I keyed all the footage out, synced and composited the Ally /Danny takes together and made an edit of the band.
The next shoot was Lauren the fire-breather, which was fun! It was a challenge to get a really clean key due to all the smoke and fire but got there in the end! I then made an edit of the Lauren shots.
The third shoot was the ‘Goths’ which I shot at derelict Lime Kilns in Buxton. I then took photos at the location which would serve as back-plates for the band and Lauren. In post, I composited the multiple shots of the band into the tunnel and the multiple shots of Lauren in front of the kilns.
Being a bit of a perfectionist I wasn’t entirely happy with the final edit but the production had problems (best not to go into here!). I was left to finish the video and worked closely with the band to get the best we could out of the shots we had and to get the video finished ASAP.
